Presidential race moves to New Hampshire
The mailers gave the recipients a failing grade for not voting in past elections, and said they could rectify it by voting for Cruz in Monday’s caucuses.
Christie delivered the fresh attack against Rubio, who finished a strong third in the Iowa caucus Monday night, moments after he was endorsed by New Hampshire highest-ranking Republican lawmaker in the state Assembly, Speaker Shawn Jasper. Instead, he lost to Cruz by four points, and beat Rubio by just one.
“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated”, Trump continued.
The news about Carson came from CNN which reported he was taking a break after the Iowa caucus to fly to Florida before moving onto New Hampshire.
Trump also referenced controversial campaign mailers Cruz sent out in Iowa during the interview.
Trump repeated that framing during a press conference before his Tuesday rally in Milford, New Hampshire.
Supporters of Sanders and O’Malley had been vocally protesting the schedule, claiming the national party was trying to protect Clinton by limiting the number of contests and scheduling debates on weekends, when viewership is lower.
Mr. Trump, at his own event, described it as Mr. Cruz telling people, “Ben Carson quit, and let me have your vote”.
Sanders, meanwhile, has vowed to take his campaign all the way to the party’s summer convention and requested three extra forums to ensure the party will have debates throughout the spring.
Sanders has said he thinks Gov. Rick Snyder should resign. Tim Tighe, 21-year-old student from New York, was wearing an I Love New York t-shirt, and said he had come out in protest of Mr Cruz’s comments that Donald Trump had “New York values”.
He also said “that they both have a lot of good things to say”, but “I think for me, I just right now can’t vote for Hillary. Unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has not accepted debates we proposed on March 3 in MI and April 14 in New York”, Sander’s campaign said in a statement issued over the weekend.
“Well, that’s gonna be a question for the voters to decide”, Cruz told reporters while flying between New Hampshire and Greenville, South Carolina, on the plane he dubbed “Constitution One”, after being asked if the primary is now a three-man race. “Forty-five minutes? You know, Marco Rubio is the master of the drive-by town hall”.
“Donald hasn’t really outlined any position on policies, with any detail – so, when the time comes, and it’s appropriate, we’ll do so”, he said.
