PressTV-1 killed, 2 injured in Saudi vehicle blast
New York, July 18 (IBNS) United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the car bomb attack perpetrated at a police checkpoint yesterday in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) named the dead uncle as Rashid Ibrahim Safyan who was a Saudi colonel.
“Let the Muslim captives in Al-Hair and everywhere know that we will not relent or tire until we release them from imprisonment, with permission from Allah”, SITE quoted the tweet as saying.
The driver detonated the explosives after being stopped at a security checkpoint, killing himself and wounding two security officers.
The driver of the vehicle was killed and two law enforcement officers were injured by the explosion, said the statement.
The Ekhbariya state TV station, citing unidentified sources, said The teenage driver had killed his uncle that afternoon, and then ran off with his auto.
Asked whether the bombing was linked to the Islamic State jihadist group, General Mansour al-Turki, the interior ministry spokesman, said he was waiting for information from investigators.
This year a Saudi militant cell affiliated with Islamic State carried out two bombings of Shi’a mosques, killing 25, and sympathisers also shot dead three policemen and wounded another in a series of attacks in Riyadh.
The checkpoint was nearby the capital’s highest security prison, Reuters reported.
