Pressure is on to win trophies, says Jürgen Klopp
Jurgen Klopp has splashed the cash on four signings already this transfer window, costing the club a mammoth £170m, and now he will look to recuperate some of those fees.
Alisson will replace Karius in the Liverpool FC first-team much to the relief of Reds supporters following the German’s horror performance in the Champions League final.
The purchase of Virgil van Dijk in January for £75 million was a definitive signal of intent and more than adequately fulfilled the need for a dominant, commanding central defender.
Liverpool have lost in three finals under Klopp – the League Cup and Europa League in his first campaign and the Champions League last season – while finishing eighth, fourth and fourth in the Premier League. Loris Karius even played in the second leg thanks to injuries to Alisson and Simon Mignolet.
And when asked if he will leave Liverpool before the end of the transfer window, Karius said: ‘I do not know now, I can not say what I’m doing right now, there’s still some time left’. We have the players we wanted. The new players will make us stronger 100 per cent. How? “That is what we have tried to do”.
The futures of seven other players including Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Sheyi Ojo, Lazar Markovic and Pedro Chirivella are also uncertain as Klopp moves to trim his squad.
Daniel Sturridge has admitted he is “surprised” by how good new Liverpool signing Naby Keita has proven to be in the early stages of his Anfield career. All of them will fight for a place in the starting XI. “We need to be ready for that”, Klopp told reporters in NY, where Liverpool were continuing their pre-season tour.
Origi’s move away will be a win-win sort of deal to both the club and player.
The vocal minority that don’t, however, have made noise recently in their unrelenting attacks on Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Karius has not been able to gather himself after his horror night in Kiev against Real Madrid. When you’re not involved in the environment you learn a lot about yourself, the team, watching from afar and seeing how the team are playing.
In terms of natural ability, Liverpool’s new No.8 is far more like Philippe Coutinho than the Chelsea man, with skill and creativity in abundance.
“I am confident we can build on last season”.
The signing of Fabinho will be a great addition to the squad as his height and experience can be vital for the Reds this season.
