Price goes 8 sharp in Boston’s 2-1 win over Seattle
Walker left his last start because of inflammation in the tendon that attaches the calf muscle to the bones on the inside of the right foot.
The odds certainly were against Adrian Sampson and the Mariners before he ever took the mound Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park. It’s an escalating problem. The Red Sox will try to get a strong effort from ace David Price when they host the Seattle Mariners in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday. He did so while pitching with significant discomfort in his right foot caused by a now nagging case of posterior tibial tendinitis.
“It’s one of the better hitting teams in the league, so I tip my hat to Kuma”, Seattle manager Scott Servais said. It happened in the first inning and just kept getting worse.. Sampson has recorded 9 quality starts, including 3 outings of 7.0 or more innings pitched and 1 or fewer earned runs allowed. But he was pleased with the off-speed pitch in the bullpen before the game and chose to break it out against Kyle Seager.
“He has climbed the depth chart, so to speak”, Servais said.
“You have to find a way to get it done, especially me and Robby”, Cruz said. He thinks he can be ready to go. “I can’t say we did too much today”.
Still, the best treatment for the injury is inactivity.
Walker said taping his ankle Sunday “definitely helps a little bit” but admitted “it just starting bugging me again”.
“He certainly showed well for himself”, Servais said.
After limiting Boston to just three hits in three innings of shutout ball to begin the game, Sampson was hampered by the Red Sox offense in the following two innings, concluding his first Major League Baseball performance having yielded four runs on eight hits and a walk in 4.2 innings, striking out two batters. Overall, he allowed earned runs in just 5 of his 22 appearances with Tacoma, and has allowed more than 1 run just once. “But it’s kind of weird over there in right field since it’s so short”.
His ability to throw strikes and “control the zone” has moved him up the organizational depth chart ahead of veterans Joe Wieland and Donn Roach and why he was called up to take Wade Miley’s place in the starting rotation. Boston dropped back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday as Roenis Elias and Eduardo Rodriguez were roughed up, but Rick Porcello’s solid start in Saturday’s 6-2 win gave the team some hope of finding a reliable starter aside from Price and knuckleballer Steven Wright.
The opted to keep Aro because he was a fresh arm in a bullpen still recovering from 15 innings of work earlier this week in three games at Tampa Bay. Bogaerts later scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 1-1.
Nuno allowed two singles and hit a batter while throwing only 14 pitches in the sixth… But shortstop Ketel Marte saved Diaz and the Mariners, making a tough diving grab of Christian Vazquez’s rocket line drive to left to end the inning.
Right-hander Taijuan Walker insists he’ll be fine Sunday for his start in the series finale against the Red Sox. Diaz left a 1-0 fastball over the inside half of the plate to Mookie Betts, who hit a laser over the Green Monster in left for a solo homer and a 2-1 lead. “I wanted it outside and it missed middle, middle-in”. He also now has two more homers than the seven he managed all of last season. David Price really threw the ball well and kept us off balance all day. “I thought he hung in there and gave us a chance”. We needed some big two-out hits.
