Priest defends pedophiles, blames ‘love-seeking’ kids
I can understand paedophilia. And it may be that perhaps they discover a few clergymen.
Father Gino Flaim, of the San Giuseppe and Pio X parish, said he “understands paedophilia” but wasn’t so sure about homosexuality.
A Catholic priest has been sacked for saying that children are sometimes to blame for paedophilia.
“The Archdiocese of Trento dissociates itself entirely from Don Gino Flaim’s declarations… which expressed views that in no way represent the position of the Archdiocese…”
When asked whether he was insinuating that a few children were at fault, he said, “For the large part, yes”, but emphasized that he wasn’t condoning sexual abuse, adding that homosexuality is a “sickness”.
“Because I’ve been to lots of schools and I know children”.
Archbishop of Trent, Luigi Bressan, said: “The Church in Trent fully disassociates itself from the statements made by one of our elderly diocesan priests to the TV channel, La 7”.
Are you shocked by this priest’s comments?
The priests comments come as Pope Francis holds the Catholic Church’s three-week synod on the family at the Vatican in Rome, where issues including divorce and remarriage are being discussed.
However the summit has been overshadowed by a series of controversies and Flaim’s comments are just the latest.
Krzystof Charamsa, who has a Spanish boyfriend, criticised what he called the “institutionalised homophobia in the Church”. The priest has been removed from his post within the parish and is no longer allowed to preach.
