Primaries held Tuesday in 4 NY congressional districts
Nine Democrats are running to replace Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel and five more on Long Island are competing for Rep. Steve Israel’s seat in NY congressional primary elections Tuesday. As a law professor, she specializes in corruption and corporate power.

In the 13th district, a wide-open Democratic primary for the Bronx-based seat opened for the first time in decades by retiring Rep. Charles Rangel, state Sen. In 2014 Teachout snagged roughly a third of the vote in a primary challenge against Andrew Cuomo.
Yandik, a farmer, is a councilman in the Columbia County town of Livingston.
The only Independent polling shows Wells in a tight race with Claudia Tenney, the New Hartford State Assemblywoman who lost to Hanna in a primary two years ago. Spitzer resigned in disgrace in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal.
The candidates were vying for the opportunity to run in the November 8 general election to fill the vacancy when U.S. Rep Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, retires after three terms in Congress.
Heaney was ahead in Dutchess County, with 1,354 votes to Faso’s 991, with 56 of 60 election districts reporting.
Cayuga County voters can check on their polling place by visiting the county Board of Elections’ website. Oliva defeated Kenneth Del Vecchio in the GOP primary election on Tuesday.
Congressman Chris Gibson was not seeking re-election on the Republican tickets.
