Primetime Ratings: ‘Blindspot’ Opens Strong on NBC
Fall TV is finally upon us, which means lots of ratings news to get into – yay! The show averaged a 3.5 with 12.14 million viewers from 8-10PM. While not as hot as 2013’s “The Blacklist” premiere in either category, it was an undoubtedly strong showing for the new drama.
The new drama opened to a 3.1 rating/10 share in the key 18-49 demographic and landed 10.6 million total viewers. However, as we noted, there is continuous L+SD ratings attrition. The 10 p.m. debut came after two hours of “The Voice”, which also enjoyed strong premiere numbers.
NBC’s riddle thriller Blindspot propelled enormous in the appraisals Monday night falling off an in number lead-in from The Voice. NBC won the opening night of the season in 18-49 (3.4) and total viewers (11.6 million).
The series premiere of NBC’s “Blindspot” cruised to victory (among broadcast networks) in the 10-11PM timeslot. Fox had a particularly rough night, with “Gotham” (1.6) getting less than half the show’s premiere audience from previous year and “Minority Report” (1.1) turning out to be an almost-instant flop. “Minority Report” at 9 debuted to a mere 1.1/3 and 3.1 million viewers. New comedy “Life in Pieces” had a decent 2.7, and “Scorpion” (2.2) was even with the season 2 finale.
ABC was third in ratings with a 1.6/5 and in viewers with 10.1 million.
Bang, which opened with the attention-grabbing Las Vegas wedding of Leonard and Penny, attracted 17.8 million viewers, down just 2% in same-day viewers from last season’s opener, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings.
Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.9/3 and in viewers with 2.5 million. We’re still not sold on the show remaining a smash hit a la “Empire“. Against increased competition, Dancing With The Stars (1.8) is now running down -14% from last week’s premiere.
As for ABC and the CW, local NFL pre-emptions makes their fast national numbers approximate. The matchup between the Colts and the Jets beat all comers with over a 9 rating. That’s basically steady with the overnight for last week’s MNF official kickoff much closer 26-24 game between the victorious Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. As usual, ESPN looks poised to win Monday night overall.
