Prince Harry joins Rihanna at celebration in Barbados
Harry is on a two-week tour of the Caribbean that is also a celebration of the 90th birthday of his grandmother the queen.
Rihanna’s tests was done by HIV counsellor Felicia Innis. Rihanna was scheduled to perform the Barbados national anthem at the anniversary celebrations. “Oh, that’s not bad”, she said, turning to Harry after her finger was pricked.
From a rostrum outside, Mr Stuart told guests seated in the marquee, he was pleased Harry was there representing the Queen. He even squinted as his blood was taken first, to scare Rihanna! There, they broke the ice, and Harry – who was wearing his medals and his insignia as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order around his neck – said a simple, “Hello, it’s very nice to meet you”.
The Barbadian pop princess joined the British royal on Thursday for the Barbados National HIV/AIDS Commission’s “Man Aware” event, held in the capital of Bridgetown in recognition of World AIDS Day. Harry was in Barbados on his 15-day tour of the Caribbean island.
The pair later chatted away at a special concert to mark the island’s 50 years of independence.
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Barbados on your Independence Golden Jubilee.
A clip of the momentous moment was shared on the Kensington Palace Twitter page alongside a message stating that it was part of the royal’s fight to eradicate the stigma surrounding the disease. Rihanna’s native country was celebrating its 50th anniversary since it gained independence from Britain, which is where Prince Harry hails from.
Fabian Sargeant, another HIV counsellor and social worker, explained that a barber shop was a ideal place to raise awareness of the need for HIV testing because it was where people discussed sex, friendship, and what was going on in their lives. Well this is done and from what we prove the photos, the current is immediately passed between the two. After a speech, the companion of the actress Meghan Markle was particularly commended and decorated the young activist Jamilla Sealy for its commitment to environmental protection.
