Prince Releases ‘HITNRUN Phase Two’ Album on Tidal
Prince dropped a surprise album, HITNRUN Phase Two, online on Saturday, Dec. 12, without any prior hint or warning. Also included in the sequence is the protest song BALTIMORE, which received rave reviews upon release earlier this year.
The album is a continued effort from Prince’s September release of HITNRUN Phase One, which coproducer Joshua Welton called “experimental”.
HITNRUN Phase Two includes previously released songs “Baltimore” and “Screwdriver”, which have been reworked for the new release.
“Digital distribution, recording technology, and social media have facilitated huge leaps in the speed of sales and promotion”, the article ponders. Those who aren’t Tidal subscribers can purchase MP3 or FLAC files of HITnRUN Phase Two here.
“I love love love it. smile I have no complaints!” he said. “Why spend weeks and months orchestrating a huge campaign behind your album when you can toss it to fans with a click and create a memorable moment that way?” I don’t think it took Prince long to make the decision, and fortunately Hannah I met with Jay Z at a listening party.
