Prince William talks his and Kate’s ‘favourite program’ Downton Abbey
The ultimate episode of the period drama pulled within the festive viewers on ITV.
Will you be sad when Downton Abbey comes to an end?
The overnight ratings for Christmas Day 2015 are in, and it is looking like this year’s Christmas Day viewing is the lowest since 2009.
Set on New Year’s Eve 1925, fans of Downton, a saga centred on the aristocratic Crawley family, watched as Lady Edith finally got her happy ending, Lady Mary found out she was pregnant and Anna and Mr Bates welcomed their first child.
However, there has been only one example in the past decade of a programme getting more than 15m viewers on Christmas Day: Wallace & Gromit: A Matter Of Loaf and Death, watched by 16.1m in 2008.
But the Queen’s speech, broadcast on BBC and ITV, was the most watched programme, with a combined audience of 7.2 million.
On Christmas Day, Prince William Downton Abbey – the most successful ITV drama of all time – will end after five years and six series.
Butler Carson (Jim Carter) is philosophical about the new developments at Downton.
Mary attempts to build bridges but her sister Edith’s secret is still posing a threat.
Michelle Dockery had a tear in her eye when she read the final page of the last ever “Downton Abbey” script.
The series finale also features regular cast members Penelope Wilton as Isobel Crawley and Samantha Bond as Lady Rosamund Painswick.
Downton Abbey was first aired on ITV in the United Kingdom in September 2010.
It also grew into a pop-culture favourite with spoofs and parodies from Sesame Street and The Simpsons, to name a few, lighting up social media.
