Princess Diana photos to be auctioned off in Boston
A dozen never-before seen photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding will be auctioned off next month.
The 12 candid photos are from the wedding reception, held at Buckingham Palace on 29 July 1981, following the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The entire collection is made up of seven black-and-white glossy photographs, measuring 10 by 8in, and seven colour satin-finish pictures at 7 by 5 in.
One photo shows Princess Diana in the Throne Room as her dress designers Elizabeth and David Emanuel arrange the train in preparation for the formal photographs.
The photographs were originally owned by an assistant to English photographer Patrick Lichfield, later Lord Lichfield. To my knowledge, none have ever been published.
In some Princess Diana can even be seen holding her youngest bridesmaid, 5-year-old Clementine Hambro.
The rare collection will be auctioned on September 24 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, according to US Weekly .
Eagle-eyed followers of the Royals will also be able to spot the Queen Mother, Princess Michael of Kent, Mark Philips, Prince Andrew, Earl Spencer, the Duke and Duchess of York, and Baroness Fellows, as well as a host of other well-appointed guests dressed in their finest. The sixth photo shows Diana and Charles surrounded by children and the seventh shot captures the newlyweds from behind as they stood on the balcony to greet the massive crowd gathered on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.
An assortment of behind-the-displays pictures in the regal wedding of Diana and Charles is a result of go at market on purchase, 34 years following the pictures were taken.
The images were left out of Charles and Diana’s official wedding album and therefore have only ever been seen by a select few people. “In the States there is still great interest in Princess Diana”.
