Princeton Fire: 50-acre brush fire threatening structures in Moorpark
Firefighters were trying to put out a 2-alarm brush fire south of Thousands Oaks on Saturday, fire officials said.
The fire broke out earlier in the morning amid dry, windy conditions. Agencies assisting with the firefighting efforts included Los Angeles County Fire Department, Cal Fire, San Bernardino County, and federal firefighters.
A wind advisory warning of isolated gusts up to 50 miles per hour in the county’s hills was issued and expected to expire at 2 p.m.
Bystanders and news crews watch a brush fire burning along the 118 Freeway in Moorpark Saturday afternoon.
Department spokeswoman Heather Sumagaysay says several nearby businesses, a mobile home park and a railroad are threatened, and residents are urged to shelter in place. But no evacuations were ordered and the fire was contained a short time later.
Like the Thousand Oaks fire, the Princeton fire was being pushed by the hot Santa Ana winds.
Two helicopters, including one from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, made water drops on the blaze.
