Pro Bowl MVP: Russell Wilson takes the trophy after strong performance
Tonight’s Pro Bowl features Team Irvin vs. Team Rice.
Wilson played the entire first quarter and part of the second en route to completing eight of 12 passes for 164 yards and no interceptions.
The game was dominated by passing as the two teams combined for over 900 yards through the air, 10 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. Ultimately, the game’s leading receiver was Team Irvin’s Allen Robinson. The NFL stipulates that the head coach of each team chooses a “need” player, and those players must be long snappers.
Wilson connected on another touchdown pass to Rams’ running back Todd Gurley, before Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr hit Kelce for his second touchdown for Team Rice. He caught a short pass from Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston in front of Atlanta cornerback Desmond Trufant. Team Irvin is loaded with talent with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and the NFL’s leading receiver this past season, Falcons’ Julio Jones. Then less than two minutes later, Team Irvin answered that score with a touchdown pass of their own. It marks the third year in a row that the NFL’s All-Star game won’t be played between teams consisting of players strictly from the NFC or AFC.
GIVING BACK: One of the biggest thrills for Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith was getting to spend some time with a young fan wearing his jersey from the Make A Wish Foundation after Friday’s Team Rice practice.
Buffalo’s Taylor got into the scoring column with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Miami’s Jarvis Landry.
Today, the week before the Super Bowl, we have the game everyone loves to hate – the Pro Bowl. When the league switched to a draft format for the 2014 Pro Bowl, the final score was 22-21, which was a full 46.5 points under the posted total of 89.5.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, right, signs autographs for his fans during the NFL Pro Bowl Football Draft show at the Wheeler Army Airfield, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Carolina had 10 players selected, including quarterback Cam Newton, while Denver had four, including defensive stars Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Woodson announced during the season that this would be his a year ago.
The only negative to the game was the injury to tight end Tyler Eifert, who left the game in a walking boot with a foot injury after injuring himself while diving for a catch.
