The game was eventually cancelled due to serious concerns over player safety.
The NFL Hall of Fame game between the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts has been canceled due to a poor field conditions, according to David Baker, the Pro Football Hall of Fame President and Executive Director.
Bengals offensive lineman Eric Winston said the league and the NFL Players Association need to identify trouble spots in advance. The grounds crew used the wrong paint to paint the end zones and midfield logo for the game.
Fierle said a review is underway and there is no additional information at this time. “Obviously there are technological advancements. How could they not have the field ready?”
There were problems with the condition of the field. The NFL and the NFLPA issued this statement.
The field in Canton was largely criticized in last year’s contest as well.
Baltimore and Philadelphia had a preseason game called off in 2001 when a new artificial turf at Veterans Stadium, the former home of the Eagles, was deemed unsafe for playing on. Bears receiver Wendell Davis tore tendons in both knees when his foot got caught in a seam in 1993.
Surfaces are tested for hardness up to 72 hours before each game. So the condition of the playing surface is a serious matter.
Worse, the officials didn’t inform the fans of what was happening until just moments before the game was supposed to start. “I think that is why it happened”.
The NFL said it would not comment on a “planned lawsuit”.
The #NFL in cooperation with the Professional #Football #Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio fumbled the first snap from center for the 2016 season.
“A lot of fans came a long way”, he said. “That’s been a concern for some guys – losing footing, pulls and muscle tears. We’ll have to get it right so it never happens again”. This also reduces the Packers and Colts’ preseason dockets to four, which stands to limit the risk of injuries to players who will be part of the teams’ regular-season rosters but also prevented fringe players from a crucial audition for those teams or the 30 others. “So we’re going to vet it through, and we certainly going to look [at it]”.
