Problems Apple Inc. (AAPL) Stock Faces After the iPhone X Debut
While the iPhone 8 would capture the usual upgrade cycle, the iPhone X – which looks completely different than any iPhone before – would spur many long-time holdouts into not only buying a new iPhone, but paying a big premium.
The most obvious example is the iPhone X and its $1,000 price tag, but the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus also received modest price bumps this year. That phone will have a starting price of Rs 89,000 and while IHS has not calculated its manufacturing cost it is nearly certain that the iPhone X will probably cost Apple higher to manufacture.
Apple Inc.’s latest smartphones, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, have more expensive parts, but the company will still make significant profits because it raised prices for the devices, according to research firm IHS Markit.
Though I hope to do a full review of the device soon, for now I’d like to go over three major improvements in the iPhone 8 Plus that I’m happy about relative to the 7 Plus, which has been my primary smartphone over the a year ago. The 8 Plus costs $799, $30 more than the iPhone 7 Plus at launch. Nevertheless, I don’t see anything in these phones that should be unusually hard to manufacture, outside of, perhaps, the new glass body. The camera now gets portrait modem and portrait lighting while the messaging app feature Animoji, a new emoji. So how much they cost Apple?
Anticipation for the iPhone X has still been high, even before it was formally announced.
The new rear camera is where the iPhone 8 Plus really comes into its own. Better pictures across all light conditions, putting Apple back at the top table alongside the Galaxy S8 and the Google Pixel in terms of cameras. Namely, a solid maximum of 21 hours in talk time, 12 hours of Internet use, 13 of video playback or 60 of audio playback, all complemented by wireless charging and fast charging support.
A popular new feature is the facial recognition. It also sports a wide color gamut display. That technology – used among other things to create a detailed map of people’s face so the phone can recognise its owner – uses far more sensors than in similar phones and is as a result much more sophisticated to make.
