Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant title official and synopsis
While the title was prematurely announced as Alien: Paradise Lost, Director Scott’s next movie is finally announced with its official title: Alien: Covenant.
Even so, Fox has managed to dish out the film’s synopsis (a spoiler alert before you read on), that says it connects “directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work” of science fiction.
The first Prometheus film had a tortured development process, being first pitched as a straight prequel to Scott’s 1979 Alien.
Director Ridley Scott’s follow-up to 2012’s Prometheus has got a new name.
Directly from 20th Century Fox, here’s the official story for ALIEN: COVENANT… However, reports indicate that he was, indeed, going to create “Prometheus 2” and that the film was to be called “Alien: Covenant”, reported Den of Geek. “In theaters 10/6/17”, they tweeted.
It was only back in January that we learned that District 9 and Elysium helmer, Neill Blomkamp was developing an Alien sequel that would reunite both Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Corporal Hicks.
Second, where’s Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace? The movie once known as Prometheus 2 briefly became Alien: Paradise Lost, before being re-titled Alien: Covenant. It also shows that ALIEN: COVENANT will not be the direct post-PROMETHEUS prequel to ALIEN, as it will be only be the second of a prequel trilogy. It will still be more explicitly connected to the Alien series, however, as the new title was revealed to be Alien: Covenant. The entertainment news outlet also pointed that the said title was a clear reference to John Milton’s epic about the fall of mankind which could very well be the storyline in the “Prometheus” sequel.
In any event, the film is now scheduled for an October 6th, 2017 release, replacing its former May 30th, 2017 launch date. The plan, according to Scott, is for this forthcoming sequel to edge closer to those awful xenomorphs and their first appearance in Alien.
