Proteas bundled out for 204 in second ODI against Kiwis
Martin Guptill hit an unbeaten century as New Zealand cruised to an eight-wicket win in their second One-Day worldwide against South Africa at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday (August 23).
Prior to that, Doug Bracewell led a disciplined bowling performance as the South African batsmen failed to come to terms with a two-paced pitch.
From 134 for six, Behardien and Vernon Philander ensured their side had something of note to defend by sharing a partnership of 54 in 12.5 overs, the highest of the innings.
Guptill said: “I do like playing here (in South Africa) because you are confronted with a lot of different conditions”.
But New Zealand’s bowling effort wasn’t only about Bracewell. In the third over, he smashed three fours off Aaron Phangiso (1-37) while also being lucky when the bowler dropped a return catch.
The live streaming will be hosted on CSA’s website, www.cricket.co.za and will be free of charge to fans living in New Zealand only. Apart from the disappointment of New Zealand’s World Cup final capitulation, it has been a stellar year for Guptill, who is one of those players who seems to fall out of favour with the public so easily.
Latham brought his fifty up in just 57 balls in the 21st over after which New Zealand reached the 100 mark as well.
He appreciated a rare opportunity with the ball, taking 0-19 off four tight overs of his right-arm seamers to slow the home team’s progress.
Kane Williamson (7) was dismissed cheaply by Phangiso who got through his defence as the former inside edged the ball onto his stumps.
Captain AB de Villiers made 31, but his departure left South Africa exposed.
Debutant George Worker finished on 20 not out as he put on 67 with Guptill for the third wicket.
By doing so, they have also levelled the series 1-1. The bounce did the job for Elliot, while the African skipper tried to chip it towards the leg he defended it awkwardly giving an easy catch to Martin Guptill at mid-wicket.
