PHILADELPHIA-Seven people were arrested Wednesday night after they broke through a security fence outside the Democratic National Convention, the Secret Service said.
The unidentified suspects, who were taken to the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center, face federal charges of entering a restricted area.
Additionally, around 50 protesters with “Democracy Spring” signs marched from the city center to demonstrate against the convention.
The lounge is part of a deal struck between the hail-to-ride company and the Democratic National Convention Committee.
On Monday, protesters climbed the a fence near the inner perimeter in an act of civil disobedience.
Philadelphia police officers blocked the entrances and refused to allow reporters inside to their work space or to report on the protest.
Social media showed scenes of demonstrators outside the convention center. In addition, police said a woman was burned during an attempted burning of the American flag. As flames quickly climbed up his leg, he rolled to the ground.
