Provincial, federal political parties not the same thing
They have refocused attention on Mr Harper’s response to the Syrian refugee crisis ahead of 19 October elections.
But that changed this morning.
“There are very few people left in this country who are surprised when we hear reports of the prime minister and his office meddling in things in a political and non-transparent way”, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau said on a campaign stop.
He says a Liberal government would “absolutely not” prioritize religious and ethnic minorities.
Don Valley North is a new riding in the 2015 election. Oliphant is running again to win back the seat.
This is also a rare election in that it offers two clear alternatives – alongside a fuzzy one.
Why the grocery store? On that score, the Liberals did not steal the ground from under the feet of the New Democrats. “It makes investments we can afford… and we can do it with lower taxes”.
To pay for it, Trudeau is also planning a new tax bracket of 33 per cent for those earning annual incomes of $200,000 or more.
Canadians are generally open-minded, progressive, and caring about others’ rights, freedoms, and standard of living. Mulcair went over the highlights one more time and repeated his commitment to repeal Bill C51.
Sadly, Mr. Mulcair and the NDP have taken a page out of Stephen Harper’s playbook.
Polls suggest the NDP is slipping in Quebec so, in French, Mulcair turned to the camera and said he wanted to speak “directly to Quebecers”. But when you consider that the Tory candidate is an Ontario-based reality TV star who may have never set foot in God’s Country before he became a candidate there, it’s probably worth turning to the incumbent to keep the seat from turning red.
NDP leader Tom Mulcair said the NDP is more than happy to form a coalition to defeat the Conservatives – and blamed the Liberals for jettisoning previous attempts. Many of his predecessors from all party stripes had that calculated personality, but as long as the affairs of the country were in order, Canadians, for the most part, were fine with that. The difference was stark.
“(Harper) had already done that before he appeared before us to emote, talking about his own family after seeing the body of that little child on that beach in Turkey. The Harper government has muzzled scientists, silenced environmentalist and now with its crass politics of race, also threatens to destroy the ethnic mosaic that made Canada a unique oasis in a world of conflict.
He accused the Liberal leader of following Harper’s lead on TPP.
Privately sponsored refugees were exempted from the Conservative government’s security audit of the Syrian refugee resettlement program, raising questions about whether it’s because most probably aren’t Muslim.
I will have a full report on Australian polling next Thursday. Fife reported sources said the government discouraged Sunni and Shia refugees in favour of Arab Christians. He repeated that his political staff did not make refugee determinations.
Weston said future health-care costs can be avoided by keeping Canadians healthy and active, especially as they get older. Trudeau used the toughest language today.
“To know that somewhere in the PMO, staffers were poring through their personal files to try and see which families would be suitable for a photo-op for the PM’s re-election campaign, that’s disgusting”, he said. The recommendation uses information from threehundredeight.com, which shows how many people voted Liberal, Conservative, NDP, and Green in the 2011 election.
“You can observe a lot just by watching”. To varying degrees, each party addressed how their government would handle-or not handle-data breaches, cyberattacks and surveillance run amok.
Leave aside the attack ads, the personality wars, and the rhetorical sniping that accompany all close-fought election campaigns.
