PSNI arrest two in connection with Paul McCauley murder in Derry
He was attending a summer BBQ at the rear of a house in Chapel Road at the time of the attack.
The 46-year-old man has been released pending a report to the North’s Public Prosecution Service while a 27-year-old detained in the Waterside remains in custody.
Two men have been arrested by detectives investigating the sectarian killing of a popular civil servant in Northern Ireland. After the assault the group made off in the direction of Irish Street.
Police are also searching a property in the Waterside.
They were arrested in Derry on Thursday morning and are being questioned at Strand Road police station.
Police stepped up their investigation following Mr McCauley’s death.
Piper John McClements, who has served a prison sentence for causing grievous bodily harm to Mr McCauley, appeared at a special sitting of Derry Magistrates Court on Saturday week last charged with his murder.
Mr McCauley’s family has pursued a long campaign for justice.
Two men and a woman arrested in Coleraine and Derry last week were released on police bail pending further enquiries.
