PTI seeks extension in exclusive policing powers for rangers
On the other hand, a summary seeking extension in special policing powers to Sindh Rangers is still awaiting the signature of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah despite the lapse of two days.
While addressing a high-level meeting in the big city to review law and order situation, the PM said there was consensus that a decisive operation was required and it has gained the great success during the last 27 months. CM Sindh also counter-complained saying FIA raided an office of Sindh government and took key files from there.
“The responsibility and the power to extend the mandate of Rangers rests with the provincial government”, he said. He further recommended that all prosecutions be monitored by the apex committee.
NNI adds: Expressing confidence over the results achieved from Karachi operation, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said the operation is indiscriminate and apolitical and therefore will continue.
Police sources have said that three elements – a political party, banned sectarian outfits and hired assassins – were responsible for the recent killings of the law-enforcers in the metropolis. He said Karachi’s security situation has improved considerably.
Addressing a high-level security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Governor House here, the Chief of the Army Staff said the operation by Rangers and police was against terrorists and their sympathizers and facilitators. However, government suddenly changed their decision and announced that the External Affair Minister will answer the questions raised by the Opposition today itself, before leaving for Islamabad tomorrow. The Army Chief told the meeting that Karachi operation will continue indiscriminately and apolitically.
