Public Anger Intensifies Over 7-Year-Old Girl Zainab’s Rape And Murder
Kasur regional police officer Muhammad Kausar Zulfiqar told CNN that the girl’s body was found on a heap of garbage only 100 meters from her home in Kasur.
The city of Kasur came to the world’s attention in August 2015, via a child abuse and extortion scandal involving at least 280 children who were filmed while being sexually abused by a gang of men.
Residents have been furious at the authorities for what they see as a failure to investigate such cases and bring these criminals to book.
Zainab’s father, Ameen Ansari, told the BBC that he did not agree with the violence of protesters, but understood the anger at police.
Two protestors were killed and two others injured during the clashes with police, while the Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif ordered to suspend and arrest the cops who opened fire at the mob.
Zainab, who was staying with her aunt as her parents had gone to Saudi Arabia on Umrah pilgrimage, on Thursday, went to attend a Quran recital nearby and never returned, according to relatives. After interrogation he will be handed over to Lahore Police for further necessary action.
Nobel Peace Prize victor Malala Yousafzai also said the government needed to do more to protect children.
“Janaja jitna chhota utna hi bhaari hota hai” – these were the words with which the anchor, Kiran Naz, started her show, carrying her daughter in his lap.
“I have appealed to the army chief and the chief justice of Pakistan to give me justice as I have no faith in the Punjab government and police”, he said.
‘I have nothing else to talk about today, except Zainab. They also ransacked a district hospital in Kasur. Police said the girl seemed to have been killed four or five days ago.
“All the localities of Kasur and abandoned places were searched, but unfortunately we … were not able to find her”. Her body was found near her residence on Tuesday. The enraged locals took to the streets against the brutal murder of Zainab after rape and demanded to hang the culprit in public. “We just want justice for Zainab”, a protester was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune. What a shameful day for us, Zainab’s killers must not only be hanged, they should be given such exemplary punishment that people should remember the lessson for ever. “And moreover, security should be improved in the area, security cameras need to be installed”.
Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif said that he will supervise the Zainab case himself till the case is not resolved and won’t let the rapist escape.
