Puig claimed on waivers
An unconfirmed Twitter post from baseball analyst Antonio Puesan stated that the Boston Red Sox were the team that claimed Puig.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports Yasiel Puig has been claimed on waivers by an unknown team.
– The Cleveland Indians acquired outfielder Coco Crisp and cash from the Oakland Athletics for minor league left-hander Colt Hynes.
In the majors this season, Puig has hit.260/.320/.386 with seven home runs and 10 doubles in 81 games. Since the demotion, he has been slashing.382/.440/.645 with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
If the Dodgers just let the claiming team have him, that club would be on the hook for the final two years and $14 million on Puig’s contract. The Dodgers can now try to work out a deal with that team, pull him back or allow the claim to go through. However, Rosenthal also noted the talented player will more likely be traded in the offseason. But, like the world of digital dating, it takes me than one side’s interest to make a move. If they keep Puig, the Dodgers can also hope he has a hot few months – something he’s more than capable of – to help them into the playoffs and maybe deeper. In 17 games entering Sunday, he had a.375 batting average and a 1.061 OPS as well as four home runs.
Puig was an All-Star in 2014 after becoming an instant celebrity with the Dodgers.
The 25-year-old Puig hasn’t appeared in a major league game since July 31.
“The moment I arrived in L.A., people were insane for me – 50, 60 thousand people [cheering] at the stadium”, Puig said in the interview with Rivera. “I’m behaving. I’m doing the work I have to do”. Halos fans see those numbers and think “Man, I didn’t even know LFs could hit that well!”. The rest does not depend on me, that’s [a decision for] the GM, the president.
“Watching the Dodgers being in first place, it’s very hard”, Puig said.
