Punter Steve Weatherford cut by New York Jets
X-rays and a CAT scan were negative and Mangold appears to be day-to-day. Cornerback Buster Skrine has injuries to his shoulder and a few fingers on one of his hands, but Bowles said he should be fine.
Safety Calvin Pryor has a sprained ankle and his availability is also uncertain. Bowles said he’s not sure if Mangold will be able to play in Oakland. The catch would have given the Jets a seven- or eight-point lead.
“That’s all on me”, Marshall said afterward. I thought they played incredibly well. However, like he’s done to so many opponents throughout his career, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady humbled the Jets. Alas, he was flagged for a false start with one second left and the Jets trying to line up for a Hail Mary. It’s going to be very interesting to see what kid of gameplan Bowles and his staff come up with considering the Raiders defense has been one of the best in the league against the run, but among the worst versus the pass.
After meeting with reporters, Marshall took to Twitter to declare that “My A** should be walking back to New York”.
The last time these teams met dates back to September of last season, when Gang Green defeated the Silver and Black by a final score of 19-14 in front of a sold-out crowd at MetLife Stadium. The transaction on Saturday made room on the roster for P Steve Weatherford, who was signed to replace injured P Ryan Quigley. I don’t know the timetable on him getting better. Weatherford said after Sunday’s game. “It’s not like (the injury) happened on a Tuesday and you can bring four or five guys in (for tryouts)”. Weatherford punted four times in the game, averaging 40.3 yards per punt. The last time was a week ago in a park, with his 7-year-old son snapping to him. It was Weatherford who ended up punting for the Jets on Sunday in the loss.
Weatherford said he had a blast, also acknowledging, “It was a rough, rough day for me”.
