Purdue Boilermakers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
Austin Appleby had 259 yards passing to lead Purdue (2-9, 1-6), which will play for the Old Oaken Bucket next week against Indiana.
The Hawkeyes are 10-0 and don’t expect them to slip up, especially against a 2-8 team. They will play in the Big 10 title game. “This is a special group of guys have been a major part of us winning 25 games over the last three years”. “We have to focus on Nebraska, knowing that they upset MI State, and they have the capability to do that (to us)”. Iowa Hawkeyes rank at 48 for scoring 32.6 points where as Purdue Boilermakers rank at 103 for allowing 34.4 scores. Third, a win keeps them unbeaten and in control of their own destiny as it relates to the College Football Playoff.
It’s been snowing hard in Iowa City, and fans are digging through the white stuff at Kinnick Stadium. While their opponent in the Big Ten Championship has yet to be determined, Iowa extends their school record for best start to a season to 11-0.
That’s been the expected outcome for weeks now, but the Hawkeyes made their spot in the title game official with a division-title-clinching 40-20 win over Purdue on Saturday afternoon in Iowa City. “So it’s been so surreal and so awesome to be a part of this”. He was one of four Hawkeyes with double-digit tackles: LB Josey Jewell (12), DB Desmond King (11), LB Cole Fisher (10).
But the Hawkeyes have apparently come too far to think they can overlook the Boilermakers.
“It was a big hit”.
Iowa senior RB Jordan Canzeri rushed for 95 yards and a score on 13 carries in Saturday’s 40-20 victory over Purdue. The second also would have been a big gain. “Yeah, but I’ve chosen to deal with whatever comes my way in a positive manner and be there for others and for my teammates”. “He’s just so slippery back there in the pocket”. He has missed only four field goals this season.
“The time, it goes by so quickly, ” Koehn said. Krieger Coble later recovered an onside kick after the Boilermakers got back within 13 points with 4:46 remaining.
“It’s really up to [the offensive line] to be good in the throwing game”, redshirt junior offensive lineman Jonah Pirsig said.
Purdue’s receivers thought of King as a challenge.
“People look at him as one of the top corners in the nation”, Yancey said.
Juan Says, “We may see a hint of Spoilermakers tomorrow”.
“I’m not sure where I’m at right now”, King said. If Purdue goes for the first down and doesn’t make it, the game is probably over.
The state of Iowa got slammed with a winter storm last night, dropping quite a bit of snow on Kinnick Stadium overnight and into the morning.
