Putin: Russia seeks to develop ties with US whoever becomes president
Putin refrained from commenting on other USA presidential primary candidates in what was a three hour, seven minute conference that touched on topics ranging from relations to Turkey to economic growth in Russian Federation to rumors concerning his daughters.
Responding to a question about how the US should confront Moscow’s support for the
MOSCOW-President Vladimir Putin on Friday said the government may have to cut the federal budget as the price of oil falls, but he tried to assure Russians that the worst of the economic crisis is over.
He said the Russian approach, “strangely as it may seem, coincides with the US vision: joint work on a constitution, creation of instruments of control over future early elections, holding the vote and recognizing its results on the basis of that political process”. “Feel the difference”, he added. “We did not start a war in Syria”, said Putin.
“We never said there were not people there who were carrying out certain tasks, including in the military sphere”.
Mr Putin described the shooting down of the jet as “an act of enmity” and said he did not understand why it happened. In addition to the aforementioned countries, it will include Turkey, which we also don’t consider to be a hostile state.
Putin also indulged himself when asked about the USA presidential elections.
Ankara has signaled that it would like to reconcile its relationship with Moscow, which took a steep downturn after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane last month. He says he wants to move to a different level of relations – a fuller, deeper [level] – with Russian Federation, how can we not welcome this? But Putin’s words went further than previous statements, in which Russian officials issued blanket denials that Russian soldiers were there. “We will continue our air strikes as long as the Syrian army continues to fight”.
In retaliation for the downing, Russian Federation has imposed trade sanctions on Turkey and has released data it claims proves Erdoğan’s family is involved in illegal oil deals with ISIL.
“They [Turkish authorities] thought that we would turn tail and run!”
“Volatility is very high”, he said, referring to the crude price.
“The Russian economy has passed the crisis”.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday in Brussels that Russia’s decision to annul the free trade agreement would hurt his country’s economy but that it would press on with efforts to join a European Union free trade zone.
