Putin Summit In Helsinki Confirmed For July
“It’s good for the world”. On Wednesday Trump said they would discuss Syria and Ukraine among other issues.
Donald Trump again appeared to accept Russian denials of election meddling without question, in a Thursday tweet.
Bolton told reporters in Moscow he expected Russian meddling in us politics to be discussed at the summit. They have also made positive comments about each other now and then with Putin lauding Trump’s handling of the USA economy.
Since coming to power a year ago, Trump has sought to improve relations with Putin amid tensions between Moscow and the West.
Their summit could irritate USA allies who want to isolate Mr Putin, such as Britain, or who are concerned about what they see as Mr Trump’s overly friendly attitude toward the Russian leader. Trump has called for improving relations with Moscow, but his administration has imposed an array of new anti-Russia sanctions.
“Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn’t do that, ‘” Trump said after the meeting, according to a White House transcript.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was likely to meet his USA counterpart Mike Pompeo beforehand, he added.
“Your visit to Moscow gives us hope that we can at least take the first step to reviving full-blown ties between our states”, Putin told Bolton at the Kremlin after the two smiled and shook hands for the cameras.
I know it makes no difference to Trump’s base, and they believe that the intelligence community is a malicious conspiracy against the Donald, but every American intel agency agrees that Russian Federation meddled in the elections.
Trump said in March that the U.S. would “be coming out of Syria like very soon”, just hours after the Pentagon had highlighted the need for United States troops to remain in the country for the immediate future.
Trump has continually parroted the Kremlin’s denial of interference in the 2016 elections.
“I think we’ll be talking about Syria. Dialogue is a sign of strength”.
Despite NATO’s optimism about the talks, Russian Federation remain cautious.
“We need each other, not because we want to love each other”.
He added: “We don’t want a new Cold War, we don’t want to isolate Russian Federation, we want to strive for a better relationship with Russian Federation”.
The meeting has stirred concern Trump will repeat his performance from his encounter with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un earlier this month. In 1997, American President Bill Clinton met Russian President Boris Yeltsin in Helsinki.
Trump is then scheduled to go to the United Kingdom, where the attempted assassination of a former Russian spy, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter, Julia, will no doubt come up, and he will likely be asked to press Putin on the issue. Russian lawmakers were also positive about the meeting. The president yesterday claimed in one of his tweets that Mr Mueller had “conflicts of interest”.
