Pyrgos to captain Scotland in Ireland warm-up match
It wasn’t the way we wanted to finish the Six Nations.
Glasgow Warriors scrum half Henry Prygos has been selected as captain, with the starting side to be named Thursday.
“It’s how it’s going to go – Greig’s been starting and Sam’s come off the bench”, conceded Pyrgos of the battle for the number nine jersey.
New Zealand-born back-row forward Hugh Blake, controversially called up to the Six Nations squad in January despite not playing a professional game for Edinburgh, is also named in the squad and could make his senior worldwide debut three months after scoring a try on his debut with the Scotland Sevens team.
“It’s been mentioned. I’ve been put in this position in training a few times”.
“The competition in training is pretty fierce and I’m just lucky to be involved”, he said.
“As a scrum-half, you have quite a big influence in the way the team plays in defence and attack”.
I’d expect Peter Horne and Richie Vernon to continue their fine club form and fill the centre berths, with Tim Visser and Sean Lamont getting a chance to impress early on the wing, whilst Greig Tonks will get the nod at full-back.
“So I wouldn’t say being skipper this weekend is a massive change”.
“I feel I can comein and definitely add to that leadership group”, he said. I will obviously still be focusing on my own game so that the team has a clear understanding of what we are trying to do.
