Qatari Beverly Hills Drag Racer Yells ‘F*** America’
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, two knuckleheads racing down the block in sports cars, while your kids are outside playing.
A YouTube video that went viral – showing a Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 911 GT3 tearing through residential streets of Beverly Hills; flying though stop signs while pedestrians waited to cross, narrowly avoiding other motorists – has caused outrage, with neighbors pleading with police to take action before someone gets hurt.
Local police are now investigating the incident which occurred last Saturday evening, telling Jalopnik that “It’s in the hands of the State Department now”, and, “Honestly, we don’t even know who was driving the Ferrari”. “I saw a Ferrari coming down the street really fast”.
Police arrived on the scene after the noise and disruption prompted complaints from neighbors on Saturday, reports the L.A. Times.
The LaFerrari – which has 950 ponies under the hood – is driven so hard that the engine begins to smoke as the auto is steered into a driveway.
He said he had diplomatic immunity.
“He told me verbatim, ‘I could have you killed and get away with it, ‘” Rogers told NBC Los Angeles. “I started walking backward with my camera up on my shoulder and at that point, he punched the camera as I was trying to lift it up on my shoulder”, Rogers told KABC-TV. The drivers, who are reportedly members of the Qatari royal family, are claiming diplomatic immunity.
The license plate on the LaFerrai belonged to the Middle-Eastern country of Qatar and the house where the vehicles parked is valued at $10 million and is now being rented.
Police have reached out to the U.S. State Department to determine the diplomatic status of the individuals involved and the legality of the vehicles being operated in California, the release stated.
