QB Foles lands two-year extension with Rams
Late on Friday, the St. Louis Rams announced a two-year extension for quarterback Nick Foles.
Foles, who was acquired from Philadelphia in the Sam Bradford trade in March, was at the top of the list in terms of priorities.
“It’s a good deal for us, good deal for him”, Rams’ head coach and one-time Eagles assistant Jeff Fisher said. “… He can make every throw….” “It’s one of those things that it’s not going to affect me when I play this game”.
Tight end Jared Cook has been raving about Foles since June.
“He’s everything that you want in a quarterback – everything that you’ve always wanted”, Cook said. “I’m just a small piece of the puzzle”. “It’s what we need”.
Chip Kelly is building his roster in Philadelphia, and that roster apparently did not include Foles.
The deal is worth approximately $24 million, according to reports. The $8.67 million average salary makes Foles the NFL’s 21st highest paid quarterback. It was not known how much of that was guaranteed. Now, he could be under contract through the 2017 season, with the three-year value of the deal at $26 million as confirmed through league sources.
In 2013, Foles had one of the best statistical seasons in NFL history, throwing 27 touchdown passes and only two interceptions, and finishing the year with a passer rating of 119.2. “It’s a good deal”.
Nick Foles finally got that contract extension that’s been talked about since last offseason. So if Foles puts up big numbers, he’ll be able to negotiate a new, bigger contract after the 2016 season. Still Foles did manage to helm Philly to a 14-4 record and playoff invite during his short time with the franchise. In essence, the Rams get a beginning quarterback for round $eight million yearly (although we do not but understand how the cash will break down or if Foles’ 2015 cap quantity will change).
