Senior Greyson Lambert, who started off-and-on last season, edged highly-touted freshman quarterback Jacob Eason.

The most common word on the list was “or”. “A lot of places don’t have guys who they can even talk to”. Nick Chubb returns from injury and Sony Michel has also been cleared to play after breaking his arm. He backed Todd Gurley until Gurley went down with a knee injury of in 2014. “It’s a situation where he’s scrimmaged and done a lot of things”. “We feel good about Nick”. We feel good about Nick, he feels great, and he’s ready to go. “So he won’t technically be on a pitch count by any means”.
It’s been fairly obvious for awhile that Chubb – who has been a full-go basically all of preseason camp – would play and probably start against North Carolina.
“I don’t think there’s been a year that Georgia hasn’t been in the top 10 in the recruiting rankings”, he said.
“I definitely think that’s something that teams are going to test us on, because of how we played in the Baylor game, and some of the games we had past year where running backs were able to get leaky yardage”, junior linebacker Cayson Collins said, “leaky yardage” being defensive coordinator Gene Chizik’s term for yards after contact. “Stopping Chubb will be a lot easier compared to what we were going up against a year ago, because there were so many factors that were not creating success for us”. “Same thing on defense”. He ranked as the No. 5 player nationally by the 247Sports composite and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart is apparently going with experience over youth. While he’s never been a head coach, there is no lack of bravado heading into his debut.
Smart insisted he would have no problem going with a freshman at the most crucial position on the field. “Not week to week, absolutely not”.
“We’ve been working hard on ourselves and getting better ourselves”, sophomore defensive end DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle said. The Tar Heels had the most improved scoring defense in the country in 2015, but that was overshadowed by criticism of the team’s inability to stop the run.
Georgia has an elite running game and a strong offensive line, making Lambert – who doesn’t throw interceptions almost as often as he did at Virginia – the most reliable starter for the Bulldogs in Week 1.
