QB Newton struggles in 1st Super Bowl, Panthers lose 24-10

The Denver Broncos defense dominated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 and Miller served as the leader of the Orange Rush.

“I’m so proud of my guys”, Miller said on the gold glitter-covered field after the game.

A Miller sack in the fourth quarter forced another fumble from Newton that was recovered by safety T.J. Ward to set up a touchdown four plays later and extinguish any hope for a Carolina comeback. The Broncos sacked Newton a Super Bowl record equaling seven times. Manning won his second Super Bowl with as many teams on Sunday night, and will be remember among the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks. There is so much hard work and it is such a long season that it’s great to be able to exhale and say “We are world champs” is a great feeling.

“First thing we knew was that [the Panthers] are the No. 1 running offense in the National Football League, so we had to stop Cam Newton, [running back Jonathan] Stewart, just all of their supporting cast”, Ware said.

On the following play, Denver quarterback Peyton Manning threw an interception to Panthers defensive lineman Kony Ealy, who returned the pick 19 yards to the Carolina 39.

Manning opened the game with an 18-yard completion to Owen Daniels, later hit Andre Caldwell for 22, and C.J. Anderson had a 13-yard run. Gary Kubiak is the first to win a Super Bowl as player and coach for the same team.

The Broncos scored a touchdown on Miller’s first forced fumble only 8:33 into the game as Malik Jackson fell on the loose ball in the end zone. He also shared a third-down sack with Derek Wolfe to get Denver the ball back at the end of the third quarter.

Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware, and kicker Brandon McManus were by far the most effective offensive weapons the Broncos had.

“What our guys did, the way we played, they will be in the conversation”, Elway said when asked about the comparison to the Bears. “You can see how he helped in this type of game”.
