QB Trevor Knight Transferring to Texas A&M For Senior Season
Knight became the Sooners’ starter for the back half of the 2013 season, and notched a win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to end the season.
Texas A&M and offensive coordinator Jake Spavital agreed to mutually part ways yesterday, leaving head coach Kevin Sumlin left searching for his fourth offensive coordinator since his arrival in 2012. Knight released a lengthy statement, seen above, from his Twitter account shortly after the transfer was announced.
Knight would be immediately eligible in 2016 as a senior.
The San Antonio Reagan High graduate started 10 games in 2014 but missed three because of injury.
Although A&M has five quarterbacks listed on its roster, Jake Hubenak is the only returning QB who registered any stats this season.
“I appreciate the opportunity Coach Sumlin and his staff have afforded me and I look forward to making my past year of eligibility a memorable one”, Knight said.
Knight lost his starting job in Norman to former Lake Travis star Baker Mayfield and eventually fell to third string behind Cody Thomas.
Coming off that success, some were pegging Knight for the Heisman and OU for the college football playoff in the 2014 season. For his career he has completed 280 of 490 passes (55 percent) for 3,424 yards with 25 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
Hubenak threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-21 loss to Louisville in the Music City Bowl.
