No damage or injuries were reported as of 9:45 a.m.to the San Bernardino County Fire Department either, but people felt it at the county administration building in downtown San Bernardino, said fire spokeswoman Tracey Martinez. It was centered 7 miles southeast of Big Bear Lake and 8 miles south of Big Bear City, USGS reported, according to CW California affiliate KTLA. It was located some 4 1/2 miles northeast of the mountain community of Forest Falls.
A magnitude 4.0 natural disaster gave Coachella Valley residents a brief jolt Wednesday morning.
Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist for the United States Geological Survey, tweeted about the quake while attending the annual meeting of the Southern California natural disaster Center in Palm Springs. The main quake was also followed by minor aftershocks, she added. The tremor struck near the San Andreas Fault, and as a result, there was a “very very slight” chance of an natural disaster along that fault, according to Jones. USGS initially estimated it as a 4.5-magnitude natural disaster, but the temblor was downgraded to a magnitude-4.0 about an hour later.
Local police said they received no reports of damage or other issues.
