Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 212, 412 and 616 processors
Back in December, news broke that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 was overheating and that many manufacturers were considering skipping the processor for their flagship smartphones. The Snapdragon 412, for example, now clocks at 1.4 GHz for each of its four cores, instead of the 410’s 1.2 GHz.
Qualcomm, the chipmaker which is best known for its high-end mobile processors, is becoming increasingly focused on the low-end chipsets. The list includes a Snapdragon 820 chip, suggesting the company is already testing out the new processor. Also included with the 412 is an Adreno 306 GPU, integrated X5 LTE Global Mode modem, and support for cameras up to 13.5 megapixels and screen solutions up to 1920×1200.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 SoC, comes with Quad-core 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A53 + quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A53 64-bit with Adreno 405 GPU with DirectX 11.2 and Open GL ES3.0 embedded in it. On the other hand, the Waterfall method follows a precise plan and once a module of the project is completed it does not allow changes easily. The former two processors will rely on the same core types from last year which are the Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A53 respectively. It not only brought just plain 4G LTE but Cat 4 speeds and even Carrier Aggregation.
In particular, Qualcomm has boosted the clock speeds of the chips. It will support up to an 8MP camera along with full HD video recording mode.
Recently surfaced information indicated that Samsung might be able to ready the device ahead of schedule, but we’ve also been wondering about the type of processor we’re going to see on board next year’s flagship.
