Quantum Break Officially Not Coming To Steam
Greenberg recently appears on the latest Major Nelson podcast and talked about the fact that Microsoft had actually been hoping to bring Quantum Break to both the Xbox One and the PC but didn’t know if they were going to be able to pull of that feat.
Quantum Break will be coming to PC but not to Steam, announces Exec Aaron Greenberg. The game will get a simultaneous day 1 release on both the platforms and considering Remedy Games’ legacy on the PC, they will hopefully do an wonderful job with the port. Microsoft plans to forgo availability on Steam and other digital distribution platforms as a means to grow its own store front, stating “Quantum Break on Windows 10 is a Windows Store exclusive”.
In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming head of Xbox. To ensure the game’s quality is up to standards, the PC version was also developed in-house instead of being handled by a third-party. They had a path that they were on.
Not according to Xbox Senior Director for PC Gaming Kevin Unangst, at least. These games are on a path, whereas with, like, Halo Wars 2 I had the opportunity from the beginning, when we’re sitting down with the studio, to say, ‘Here’s the target. Great news, unless you’re one of the Twitter crybabies who got upset at the prospect of more people being able to play a videogame. Here’s what we wanna go do.
It’s a game worth playing and Xbox One owners will be glad to see that Hitman: Absolution is coming over to their console. The upcoming title is exclusively available on Windows 10’s store. The pre-order offer also applies for those who redeem a digital code purchased from participating retailers or from the Xbox One Special Edition Quantum Break Bundle by April 4th, 2016.
