Quarterback Tony Romo optimistic on Dez Bryant — Dallas Cowboys News
Bryant and the Cowboys have been working on a deal all offseason and recent reports have an agreement coming as soon as this week.
Both of Bryant’s agents, Tom Condon as well as Kim Miale of Roc Nation, met with the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who said the NFL was acting out of spite when it forced the cancellation of his fantasy football convention in Las Vegas last month, plans another one next year in Los Angeles. However, the Cowboys think he’s bluffing, according to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole. Seifert figures if Bryant plays out the franchise tag this season, he’ll lose leverage in negotiations because the Cowboys will point to this long-term trend. One of the reasons why is the Cowboys believe that Bryant is bluffing when he talks about missing a game or two during the regular season.
Even though he is not involved in the contract discussions, Tony Romo and the franchise better hope that Dez Bryant, Jerry Jones and the front office can find a way to fairly compensate the All-Pro receiver and he is on the field come game 1.
The proposed deal is reportedly in the neighborhood of seven years, $100 million, and needs to be signed before the July 15 deadline to avoid the franchise tag. He missed the majority of the 2013 season with a foot injury.
Dallas was said to be so comfortable with the likelihood that they’d get a deal done shortly after the holiday weekend, in fact, that they were willing to take a “negotiating break” to celebrate. Fisher reported that a deal could be announced as early as Monday, but clearly that did not happen.
Wednesday night No. 20-11 on the countdown were revealed as we inch closer to training camps getting started, and Bryant came in at No. 15.
If the Cowboys make 10 percent ($8.75 million) a signing bonus, that would allow about $1 million in cap hit number fluctuation each year of the deal to make it just a little more cap friendly through 2021.
