Quick-moving wildfire shuts Interstate 15 in San Bernardino Mountains
CAJON PASS Firefighters are battling a 1,500-acre brush fire Tuesday along the southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway, near Kenwood Drive in the Cajon Pass, that is now threatening at least one structure, according to California Highway Patrol and fire reports.
A fast-moving brush fire has ignited in Devore in San Bernardino County near the Cajon Pass.
Part of California Highway 138 and a 25-mile stretch of I-15, between Oak Hills to Devore, were closed due to their close proximity to the fire.
By Tuesday afternoon, the fire had grown to 2,500 acres.
Although Wrightwood is under voluntary evacuation orders, the area surrounding Wrightwood Elementary is under mandatory evacuation orders, and Snowline Joint Unified officials are asking parents to pick up their students as soon as possible.
An evacuation center is set up at the Jessie Turner Community Center in Fontana, 15556 Summit Avenue.
The 1,000-acre fire was reported around noon, prompting some evacuations in the area, which is about 70 miles west of the Coachella Valley.
San Bernardino County Fire is assisting with the water drops over the area and has assigned 35 units including crews and dozers.
Swarthout Canyon has been closed and residents have been evacuated from Lone Pine Road to Old Cajon Blvd.
The region is under red-flag warnings for high fire danger because of gusty winds and low humidity levels.
