Quigley ‘Questionable,’ Weatherford Signed
He kicked for the Saints, Chiefs and Jaguars from 2006-08 before coming to the Jets for a two-year stay in 2009-10. He was a part of the Giants’ championship team in Super Bowl XLVI.
The Jets have signed former Giants punter Steve Weatherford, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media’s Kimberly Jones reported.
The New York Jets are bringing back punter Steve Weatherford after announcing that Ryan Quigley is questionable for the game against the New England Patriots with a shin injury.
If Quigley does miss this week’s game, and signing a second punter suggests he will, it’s an audition opportunity for his 32-year-old replacement.
“I’m baaaaaaack!!!!” Weatherford posted on Instagram, smiling while posing between wide receiver Eric Decker and cornerback Darrelle Revis for a photo at the Jets’ facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.
The Patriots also made a Saturday transaction, activating WR Brandon Lafell from their Reserve/PUP list to the active roster. He most recently played four seasons with the New York Giants before being released in early September. That is above his career average of 44.5 yards. He was on 98.7 ESPN New York on Saturday with co-host Dave Rothenberg when Jets pro personnel scout Greg Nejmeh called him about the opportunity during a commercial break.
