Quinton Coples to Dolphins
The NY Jets replaced former first-round pick Quinton Coples with another outside linebacker, Josh Martin. Tannenbaum was the General Manager of the Jets when Coples was drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft. Coples had just eight tackles in 10 games this season.
Coples, 25, who was selected with the 16 pick overall in 2012, has 16.5 career sacks. The Jets were unable to find a suitor. The new Dolphins linebacker had 16.5 sacks in his first three seasons in the league but has yet to get a sack this season.
The Jets have a plan to fill Coples spot on the roster but haven’t revealed what those plans are.
“He just wasn’t playing, Bowles said”. The likeliest scenario is that Coples plays out this year with the Dolphins, who needed an edge rusher, and then is cut after the season.
Because Miami picked Coples off of waivers, they’re responsible for his $534,840 contract this year and $7.8 million next season, if he suffers a serious injury.
Clearly, Coples just isn’t that good and is even less good in Todd Bowles’ scheme.
Coples has versatility as he can play both as a defensive lineman and outside linebacker. He played 21 games with the Kansas City Chiefs, recording a half-sack and 28 tackles. Baltimore plays AFC North rival the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football, and while Schaub is expected to start, Clausen could see time if things fall apart quickly.
Bowman signed with the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent on April 13, 2015 after spending the 2014 season with the NY Giants following a six-year stint (2008-13) with the Chicago Bears.
