Quvenzhane Wallis signs 4-book Simon & Schuster publishing deal
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wallis is set to publish a whopping four books for Simon & Schuster’s children’s book division.
The picture book follows a “spunky young heroine” who is on her way to an awards ceremony with her mum, and the pair have “a grand time” trying on dresses, riding in a limo and walking the red carpet. Illustrators for her picture book and chapter series also have yet to be chosen.
Wallis is the youngest actress ever to be nominated for an Academy Award, for her performance in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” in 2012.
Wallis released a statement about her new project and hopes to encourage readers to tap into their imagination. S&S described the three books – which will come out in January 2017, then in the fall of 2017 and finally in the summer of 2018 – as “perfect” for readers ages 6 and up and for fans of the Clementine books and Judy Moody’s books.
Quvenzhané can next be seen in the Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, and Aaron Paul drama “Fathers and Daughters”, and has the lead role in an adaptation of Holly Goldberg Sloan novel “Counting by 7s”.
The series will feature a “precocious and talented” young girl and will be loosely based on Quvenzhane’s own life. “The books follow Shai Williams, a star in the making, who has a flair for the dramatic… both onstage and off. ideal for readers ages six and up, the series is sure to appeal to fans of Clementine and Judy Moody”. “We look forward to her bringing that same electric combination to the page”.
