Race to the White House begins in Iowa
Bush says it’s time fix what the problems caused by president Barack Obama.
Ivanka Trump hit the campaign trail for her father GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
Republican Ted Cruz directed much of his final advertising against Marco Rubio as the senators’ feud grows even more bitter in the final days.
Trump leads Texas Sen.
Now, Iowa will set the table for voters, offering the first measure of how strong outsider candidates like Trump and Sanders stand against more traditional politicians like Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. But in that poll, Cruz leads with “very conservative” voters by 20 points.
One development – the weather – was beyond the candidates’ control. Republican John Kasich already has decamped to New Hampshire.
According to a Cruz campaign press released, “over 12,000 volunteers have signed on” and rooms at Camp Cruz “are filled beyond capacity with volunteers from all over the country, some tripling up in rooms using air mattresses”.
“Our Democratic candidates have agreed in principle to having the DNC sanction and manage additional debates in our primary schedule, inclusive of New Hampshire this week”, Wasserman Schultz said in the statement.
The rules for Democrats require a candidate to be meet a minimum threshold of support before their votes can be counted, marking a key test for long-shot Democratic candidate Martin O’Malley, now polling at 3%. In both years, the social conservative candidate won the state – former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen.
“That ain’t the real world we’re living in!” she said. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., speaks during a campaign rally at Grand View University, on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Cruz has modeled his campaign after past Iowa winners, visiting all of the state’s 99 counties and courting influential evangelical and conservative leaders. “Cruz trusts James Madison”. “I trust him on the major issues, but I don’t think he’s more trustworthy than anybody else”.
“Well, you tell them that you understand something very profound”, Sanders said, “and that is if you are not fighting for your rights, who’s going to fight for you?” The final Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll on Saturday night, which has often been an effective barometer of how the race eventually shakes out put Trump on top of Cruz 28% to 23% with Sen.
He’s questioned Cruz’s eligibility to be president because of his Canadian birth and framed his as a tool of big banks.
“It is so dishonest. I’m going to win”, Trump said, as the Council Bluffs crowd started to cheer.
Sunday evening in Sioux City, Trump eschewed the usual expectations game that drives candidates to downplay the importance of a single state’s result – even Iowa. Trump asks Iowa voters if he can buy their farms. “However, absent agreement on the details, we will give our campaigns the space to focus on the important work of engaging caucus goers in Iowa”.
On the Republican side, however, the Bloomberg/Register poll suggested a different story. “This election has to be about the future”, he added. “Stick with a plan”.
Clinton, the former Secretary of State, said she had been subjected to “years of scrutiny, and I’m still standing”. “I feel vetted… and I think I’m the best person to be the nominee” he said, “and to defeat whoever they nominate in November”. Bernie Sanders is within the margin of error. Independent groups American Bridge and Correct the Record have garnered $6 million in total, CNN reports. “To look us in the eye and to distinguish, who’s telling the truth and who’s blowing smoke”, said Cruz.
Cruz laughed off the interruption, sarcastically asking: “Is that Trump back there?”
