Radio World: Spotify Unwraps Musical Map of the World
The map, which Spotify officially launched Monday, links to playlists from over a thousand cities. For the cities covered, though, the playlists each provide plenty of music (most appear to top out at 100 songs), and Spotify is promising to update them all twice a month.
Whatever the case may be, this is built on the belief that places have musical identities and it aims to tap into those genomes.
It includes almost 1,000 cities around the globe, which you can click on to be directed to a playlist of music distinctive to that particular region. That said, Spotify is specifically looking for what makes an area musically different from others. If so, take a look at the new Spotify Musical Map – it’s “an interactive audiographic guide” that connects you with the hottest songs in numerous major cities around the globe. Basically, the songs that supposedly make each city unique.
Come to think of it, you could easily burn far more time than that.
Spotify says it analyzes approximately 20 billion plays for each playlist.
Just type in the name of the concert or event you want to experience, and then choose the year you want to re-live through music.
From Reykjavik, Iceland to Honolulu, Hawaii, Music Map is available now and is free for Spotify subscribers.
