Radwanska advances to Australian Open semifinals
That’s not the case in the unforced errors column at Rod Laver.
Federer didn’t step on the court at Rod Laver Arena until almost 11 p.m. local time and his match ended early Monday morning in Melbourne.
“I had no that I was playing her next”, Williams said. “She had a good win today”. Sharapova had 21, including four on her second serve. It was physically demanding.
“I look forward to playing the best in the world and that’s what she’s proven in the a year ago”. He has come multiple times to the finals only to stumble at the last block.
“She played quite explosive”, Sharapova said.
Her postmatch request was to get to face her next opponent with the roof open.
“I know a lot of players wanted me to win this match”, the 31-year-old Frenchman said. Djokovic, while at times susceptible serving, has improved in that category and is tough to beat when he gets his first serve in to win a high percentage of points.
He continued to dominate on his own serve, winning more than 90 percent of his first service points for much of the match before it dropped off in the final few games, though he was still able to seal victory in just 88 minutes. Li Na saved a match point in her third-round match at the 2014 Australian Open on the way to the title. They are joint second in the Open era list behind Roger Federer, who holds the record with 37. I think for his kind of game it’s good.
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic (R) and Japan’s Kei Nishikori shake hands after Djokovic won their quarter-final match at the Australian Open tennis tournament at Melbourne Park, Australia, January 26, 2016.
Djokovic halted his interview and asked the fan to repeat his advice before replying over the microphone: “I hate to say it, but you’re absolutely right”. “It’s probably one out of 40, a very low percentage”. But sometimes it works.
“It’s not like I think about what I can do worse”. So, of course, there’s going to be a lot of unforced errors piling up.
“I was aggressive, had some variety in there”.
7 in such fine form in this tournament – and having had far less to do against his opponent in the last round – many are believing that Nishikori could kick his year off with a huge giant-killing here. It’s also possible that as much as Williams loves to beat Sharapova (it goes back to that surprise upset Sharapova pulled on Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final), she will go out there one day in an off-kilter, “been there, done that” mood and play poorly.
The win makes Federer the oldest man since 1979 to reach the Australian Open semifinals. The Swiss needed only 88 minutes to defeat Goffin.
Alas, Djokovic is through to the quarterfinals and he will face Kei Nishikori for an eighth time on Tuesday. Nishikori took an injury timeout for a wrist issue against the Spaniard, but he put any fears to rest by clobbering Tsonga 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth round. That led Djokovic to dish out 18 break chances, 14 of which he was fortunate to save.
“One match at a time”.
Told the Panthers were well ahead of the Cardinals in the NFC decider, Azarenka said “Well then, it’s going to be my dream final, I can’t wait to see that”. “So I’m very pleased”. “I’m just really looking at me right now, and I feel like if I can just continue to play well, then it could be good”.
Federer, a four-time champion in Australia, secured a quarterfinal against No. 6 Tomas Berdych, a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victor over Roberto Bautista Agut.
