RAF given all clear to shoot down Russian aircrafts?
The Russian ambassador in London, Alexander Yakovenko, said he “urgently requested explanations” from the Foreign Office, The Times said.
The Foreign Office said the reports, over the weekend, had been inaccurate.
Pilots were given the shocking order as United Kingdom ministers wanted Russian Federation is making the situation in the Middle East “much more dangerous”.
It emerged last night that RAF fighter pilots have been granted permission to shoot down Russian jets if they come under attack while completing missions over Iraq. “We need to respond accordingly”.
“The first thing a British pilot will do is to try to avoid a situation where an air-to-air attack is likely to occur – you avoid an area if there is Russian activity,” the unidentified source from the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) told The Sunday Times. “It will only take one plane to be shot down in an air-to-air battle and the whole landscape will change”.
United Kingdom media allegations that RAF pilots in Iraq had been authorized to shoot down Russian fighters in case of imminent threat have prompted a response from Moscow.
“Since the early days of unrest in Syria, United States and western-backed terrorists roamed the country, purportedly to break the anti-Zionist resistance led by Syria in the region; Iran knows well this critical issue and would not hide its support to Bashar al-Assad, and will continue its support; Russian Federation shares this position with us and naturally cooperate with us in Syria; we would not cover up our seeking advice and giving it to Russian Federation and Iraq about Syria, just to neutralize the illegitimate foreign plan to overthrow Syrian democratically-elected government”, he emphasized to Al-Alam program.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this week Moscow has not received any requests from Baghdad to carry out airstrikes against ISIL targets in Iraq.
The Russian Air Force is not executing any operations in Iraqi airspace, so in theory any interaction between Russian and British warplanes is out of the question.
