Rafael Dos Anjos Stops Donald Cerrone In 1st round
With speculation that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will look to move up to the lightweight division for his next fight, Dos Anjos will likely face the Irishman for his next title defence. Diaz’s long range and relentless boxing carried him to a unanimous decision and may have put him in line for a bout with new featherweight champ Conor McGregor, who has expressed interest in moving up a weight class. For now, Diaz joins the list of lightweight contenders, as does the previously eighth-ranked Johnson.
The Dubliner is now the hottest ticket in the UFC and fighters including Frankie Edgar and Nate Diaz are falling over themselves to call him out.
The American continued his rant in an interview as the night was wrapping up, calling on McGregor to “give the fans what they want”. “Wherever you want, I’m here to stay”. “I don’t think that would be a smart decision for him, but I would be happy to welcome him”.
“I’ve been fighting in the UFC since I was 21”.
“My coaches were telling me to [keep the fight standing, ] and going into the second round and the third round that was the plan”, Samman said. “It’s better to stay in the featherweight division”.
“I’ll fight you in Brazil, I’ll go to Ireland and face you there, wherever you want”. In spite of his lack of success in title fights, he still became one of the most recognizable fighters coming out of the organization when it was merged with the UFC.
Cerrone admitted in the post-fight press conference that after being hit by the first knee to the rib cage by Dos Anjos he was in trouble.
But Diaz made his case for the fight. Ain’t nobody wants to see that.
“You don’t know exactly how you’re going to react until he starts doing it, and he sucked me in”, Johnson said.
“Sometimes you just don’t show up to work, so you get your ass kicked”, Cerrone said. He also knows he needs to win fights which is why he doesn’t want to fight any wrestlers as that is his kryptonite. It was a helluva way to close a great night of fights. Oliveira immediately took the fight to the ground, put Jury in submission danger, and eventually got the job done with a guillotine in the first round. “My entire focus is on training and preparing and in that, I just do 100 percent that and nothing else”. “I’m going to keep going, so I’m already going to head back into camp in January and I’m going to be ready for what’s going to happen next”. “The ‘Reem” vaults six places to the No. 3 spot previously held by dos Santos, who falls one place to No. 4.
However, a failed drugs test for elevated testosterone levels took him out of the fight, and seven bouts later he’s still trying to get back to the championship level. Couldn’t find my gear.
