Ragnar the Viking no longer team’s mascot
One would expect the two sides to come to a deal soon-if the Vikings could find common ground in contract negotiations with a child-beater, they shouldn’t have much trouble signing a guy who merely raped and pillaged and established the Danelaw.
It’s Ragnar the Viking – or at least the man who has played him for the past 21 years.
“It doesn’t feel right sitting at home”, he wrote. Well, apparently Juranitch was looking for an astonishing $20,000 a game for the next ten years.
$1.6 million! That’s more than some Vikings players make – the veteran minimum salary maxes out at $970,000, according to Spotrac – and, if we had to guess, more than any mascot makes in American sports. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not publicly discuss contract negotiations.
“This offseason, Joe Juranitch’s (Ragnar) contract with the Vikings expired”. So when Minnesota hosted the Detroit Lions this past weekend, Ragnar was at home. He’s known for his Vikings-themed Harley Davidson and a shaggy beard he once shaved with an ax.
Ragnar, the impressively bearded mascot in question, has led the Vikings out onto the field on his motorbike for the past 21 years. I miss all my fans and your support.
“The Vikings greatly appreciate what Ragnar has meant to the organization and to the fans over the last two decades”, the statement read.
Fans of Ragnar have started an online petition to convince team owner Zygi Wilf to reinstate the longtime mascot.
Juranitch was not immediately reached for comment, as he was likely busy updating his Linked In profile. “We will always consider Ragnar an important part of Vikings history”.
