Rahul attacks PM, dares him to bring back Lalit Modi

Rahul during his speech was visibly angry against Swaraj for alleging that his family had helped Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi and Bhopal gas leak accused Warren Anderson flee from India.

Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram attacked External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the controversy surrounding former IPL chief Lalit Modi and demanded for her apology on Thursday.

Sushma Swaraj countered allegations concerning her family and denied her husband Swaraj Kaushal was a lawyer for Lalit Modi in his passport case.

Though Bharatiya Janata Party patriarch LK Advani has been sidelined by his party ever since he opposed the candidature of Narendra Modi for the post of prime minister two years ago, insiders said that he played a key role in ending the logjam that had paralysed the Lok Sabha for more than two weeks.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi said parliament would function after Sushma Swaraj disclosed her family’s financial transactions with the former IPL chief, facing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate.

She reiterated she did not help Lalit Modi but his wife who was to undergo a medical procedure for cancer treatment in Portugal.

But things got personal when Swaraj began her reply and launched into a fusillade against Gandhi and the Congress governments in the past including the one headed by his late father Rajiv Gandhi.

Attacking Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Jaitley said: “What can I say about Rahul Gandhi?”

“Ministers have failed… instead of answers we got sermons”, he said.

“He wanted Lalit Modi to be deported, which can not be done”. “I said “I respect you”.

It is rather unfortunate for Rahul, as just as he seemed to assert his presence in the Parliament as a frontline leader of the Congress, a piece of paper has undone him and once again questioned his ability to lead without guidance and speak on issues impromptu. “While P. Rahul said he would “defend” the country from the RSS and Narendra Modi, reminding journalists that three TV channels had been issued notices by the government recently. “However if it is on humanitarian grounds, she should have insisted on him returning to India after meeting his wife”, Kharge said.
