Rahul Levels Allegations Against Modi, BJP Rebuts Charges
Asserting that Modi is “pure as Ganga”, the ruling party said Gandhi was trying to divert attention from the VVIP chopper scam in which his family’s name has cropped up, a charge the Congress rebutted.
“Narendra Modiji, tell us whether this allegation is true or not… order an independent investigation and come clean. Instead of admitting it, it is forcing daily wage earners to stand in bank queues”, he said. “Modi has fire-bombed the poor of the country”, said Gandhi.
“This is not all”. ‘Gujarat CM (to be paid) Rs 25 crore, Rs 12 crore paid, the rest?’ This is what is written there. Addresing a rally in Gujarat, he added that income tax department has all records of payment made to PM Modi by Sahara. “8 November ke baad Rs 1200 crore ki toffee Modi ji ne Mallya ko di [After November 8, Modi ji gave a Rs 1200-crore toffee to Mallya]”, Gandhi said. Not that we expect anything intelligent from Gandhi, but he could have at least taken into consideration the Supreme Court’s recent snub to well-known lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
The epicentre of Rahul’s “earthquake” was Modi’s home district in Gujarat – Mehsana where the Gandhi scion addressed a rally on Wednesday.
According to a CVOTER survey, conducted on 19 and 20 December in 24 states, 57.7 percent of the total respondents believed that Gandhi’s allegations about Modi’s corruption were baseless. Anybody can make a computer entry against a Chief Minister or Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Congress too demanded Narendra Modi face an independent inquiry as the allegations of personal corruption against him have led to “serious question of credibility”.
Rahul had today asked Modi whether he had received crores from corporate houses when he was Gujarat chief minister.
“PM Modi has done what the previous Congress governments have failed to do”.
“But they turned out to be more corrupt than the Congress”, he said.
Earlier, from Ahmedabad, Gandhi went to Unjha town where he offered prayers at the temple of Goddess Umiya.
Such language is used by “RSS people”, he said.
Mentioning the National Herald case, Prasad said: “He himself is on bail in the Rs 5000 crore National Herald case”.
The Congress leader mocked the government over non-repayment of huge loans by many individuals, including Vijay Mallya.
Needless to say, the family name was dragged in.
Reacting to Prasad’s comment, Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the BJP is indulging in mudslinging rather than placing the facts before the public. “If necessary, CBI should probe the matter for the truth to come out”.
