Raiders lose to Bears on late field goal
And the Raiders defense is still vulnerable against good quarterbacks, including Chicago’s Jay Cutler.
NOTES: QB Jay Cutler returned to the lineup after missing one game but the Bears played without three injured regulars including No. 1 wideout Alshon Jeffery.
Unfortunately for the Raiders and their fan base, it is obvious that while the team has drastically improved compared to the last several seasons, they showed by falling 22-20 to Chicago that just aren’t capable of beating teams they have no business in losing to. He was cool as a cucumber, bringing Chicago its first win since November.
Cutler gutted through a hamstring injury to return to the lineup at least a week earlier than most reports predicted. Remember that silly narrative that Cutler isn’t tough? He missed a few receivers and was late throwing to others. Del Rio opted for another run in hopes of converting the first down or running out more time if it was unsuccessful.
Murray should get his chance to do that against Denver this week as the Raiders try for their first AFC West win of the season. “The guys are excited, coaching staff is excited”. One negative success can take this dvd from “As Good as It Gets” to “Wild Hogs”.
Charles Woodson (24) of the Oakland Raiders breaks way from Marquess Wilson (10) of the Chicago Bears after intercepting a pass in the 4th quarter at Soldier Field on October 4, 2015 in Chicago. He’s done it time after time before. The Bears were in business, with Gould in position to close it. Woodson made a terrific interception of a long ball intended for Martellus Bennett in the fourth quarter that was essential to keeping the Raiders in the game. “When you see people have success, that team is doing everything they can to correct it, so I feel like this week will still be a challenge”.
The Bears got a glimpse of life without Cutler the past two weeks.
The Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders are on two different spectrums of the National Football League landscape but it they have seemingly switched places from where we thought they’d be. But Cutler looked sharp right from the start, orchestrating an 80-yard touchdown drive to a 7-yard scoring pass to Royal. But for the most part, it was a strong showing. Adam Gase works well with the quarterback, and the schemes are built for his success.
The Raiders major matter is, all too often, hard stops are obtaining completely free sets loose from the type of skirmish and achieving downfield without the need for being shaken up or perhaps hauled away. Of course, those mistakes were costly. And the Packers put up 31 in the opener.
“I love that end zone, because that’s the wind I’m used to”, he said.
So easily, this could’ve been another Cutler game spoiled by a bad pick.
“That’s coach’s job to make that decision”, Hoyer (Michigan State) said about who will start atr quarterback. And he got benched toward the end of the game.
Helu had already notched a touchdown on the day but was stopped on a third-and-two play that resulted in a Raiders field goal.
“That was another potential game-ending situation”, Del Rio said.
